The Light Bulb Bird

There has been a fair bit of inaction in my workshop this winter. We have had one of the hardest winters I can remember and suffered in temperatures as low as -10 many nights. With no heating in my little casa this was pretty hard going in the living quarters, let alone the workshop. Frozen clay is not much fun. I moved the workshop to Spain to avoid all that.
Like all things, nothing stays the same and the spring is slowly showing itself. We still have almond blossom on some of the trees in the campo, and only last weekend there was snow!
This is a sad little plate because it cracked, probably due to the changing temperatures, but at least I had only got a few hours into it when it happened. The idea is to create a tree of what at first look like blossom buds, but on close inspections reveal themselves to be incandesant light bulbs. "Bird as Prophet" A scene of fantasy in which a mysterious bird lives in the forest, foretelling the future. The buds change to light bulbs and light up as he speaks the future. It is from the seventh of Schumann's Forest Scenes.

Lovely to see you back, I've missed the sunny Spanish sunshine emanating from your blog! I had no idea that you would have such cold winters, I'm fighting the urge to hibernate here as our temperatures plummet! It certainly is hard to struggle into the studio when it is really cold. Hope you have a great spring and some more nice plates with birds mysteriously appear to replace the cracked one!
